   Résumé
   Déçu par la vie, sa fiancée et la guerre de Corée d'où il revient, Vincent Bruce entre comme infirmier dans une clinique pour malades mentaux. Il se donne pleinement à sa tâche et s'éprend de Lilith, une malade très belle, qui vit dans son univers et dont il subit l'étrange fascination. Il cède à l'appel des sens et à ceux, déréglés, de la belle ensorceleuse, véritable nymphomane. Lilith entraîne à sa suite Vincent dans une profonde dépression…
   Commentaire
   Après son triomphal Arnaqueur, Robert Rossen aborde le problème des malades mentaux, en observant le comportement d'une jeune fille, véritable réincarnation de la Lilith biblique, enfermée dans son univers destructeur et entraînant avec elle tous ceux qui tentent d'y pénétrer. Warren Beatty n'est pas toujours très convaincant. Jean Seberg réussit une composition fascinante et envoûtante. Ce fut le dernier film de Rossen.
